How Coloring Could Reduce Your Daughter's Stress

Do you or your daughter struggle with stress and anxiety? You might need a new box of crayons!

Coloring stimulates the parts of the brain associated with not only motor skills, but also the senses. When your sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch get invited to participate in the vestibular senses that control motor skills it disables your brains ability to fixate on negative things beyond what is in front of your face. Coloring also helps to calm the amygdala, the part of our brains that control our emotions and stress. In other words, coloring takes our minds off our problems, and leaves us feeling much more relaxed. That's something a lot of tween girls need help experiencing. And, for that matter, so do moms.

The publishing industry has cashed in on this good news, of course, and you can find a plethora of coloring books in gift shops, book stores, and online. But what if the pages you and your daughter enjoyed coloring together also came with the added benefit of memorizing scriptural truth? Rather than coloring random mandalas or scenery, pages filled with Bible verses or basic biblical truth could be just what you and your daughter need to be sure that you're not just checking out when you color. But you're checking in with God to know what is true.

And there's significant evidence that coloring helps with memorizing. So imagine some of those pages being entire verses?

The new True Girl Shine for Jesus coloring book by Dannah Gresh and Julia Ryan is a wonderful way for tween girls to take time out of their hectic lives to spend time meditating on God’s Word as they color in the Scripture art. The Shine for Jesus coloring book is our thank you gift to you for helping us meet our end of year financial need with a donation of any amount!

Our True Girl theme verse:

"So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31,32

Mom, the best way to teach your daughter to live like an authentic True Girl is to live like an authentic True Woman. And to do that, you've got to get your life lined up with the Truth of the Bible. Listen to Dannah Gresh every weekday on Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth's Revive Our Hearts podcast. The program features biblical teaching, interviews that offer godly advice, and other opportunities to abide in God's Word.
