Hey True Girl Dads!

It's about time we offered some tips to you! We imagine you have just a few questions about your tween daughter, like “Is she really from another planet?” In this blog series, Bob Gresh, author of 8 Great Dates for Dads and Daughters will answer some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from Dads.

How can I connect with my daughter in a way she will understand?

You need to learn how to speak her language! This might mean you need to crawl out of your man zone. If you’ve got a tomboy, playing catch in the yard, hiking and fishing might be her thing! If you’ve got a fru-fru… It really never hurts to wear a tutu and let her do your nails in the comfort of your own home. (Despite what some might think, it is what manly-men do for their Princesses.)

Gary Chapman gives some great advice when it comes to relating to our girls. Maybe you’ve heard of The Five Love Languages? Gary suggests that there are five primary ways in which we receive and show love: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time and physical touch. I encourage you and your daughter to visit their website and take the free, online love language test together. When you understand how your daughter receives love, you will know better how to connect with her. And ice cream. Never underestimate the connecting power of a hot-fudge sundae.
