“Prayer is boring.” “How do we know God is listening?” “I don’t know the right words to say.”Have you heard any of these words come out of your daughter’s mouth? These are pretty normal thoughts and questions for any Christian as they’re learning about prayer. And our young girls are no different. But she already owns the tool that can change all of that: her Bible. She can strap the Sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God) onto her prayer life in 2023 and pack it with power. Our focus scripture this month at True Girl may seem a little more abstract as we talk about power-packed prayer, but it's very related. Check it out:
The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
In the book of Isaiah, God is talking to the Israelites who were discouraged because they were in captivity and the future was freaking them out. Life was hard and they had no idea how anything was going to play out. These verses are reminding them that God is sovereign and mighty and, as we think about prayer, the power of God’s Word is unstoppable. Isaiah 55 is calling the people back to the written scriptures and reminding them that they have efficacy. You could form those powerful thoughts into a modern day prayer this winter. It might sound something like this:
Dear God, I know that the winter rain and snow will water the earth, cause grain to grow, and feed me.
It is the same with the words I read in my Bible. You send them to us and it produces fruit.
Use your Word to accomplish good things in me this year!Praying God's Word is a simple way to eliminate boredom and give your girls the words they need to pray powerfully! And when we teach our girls to use the scriptures as prayers, we’re simultaneously teaching them that God’s Word and character can be trusted. He is faithful and true!
