How to Have Victory Over Body Image Issues

Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Are you one of them? Maybe you feel like you just don’t fit into the cultural ideal of beauty, or perhaps you believe the lie that thinner is better. It’s time to expose the UN-reality of the lens most women view themselves through . . . and learn to replace that view with one that’s true.

Today on True You, we’re diving into a topic most women have struggled with at some point in their life: body image. With the media constantly promoting unrealistic ideas of beauty to women, it’s easy to lose sight of the Truth and fall prey to lies. The key to navigating this confusion is staying rooted in the Truth of what God says about our creation. Freedom from lies about our beauty doesn’t come from self-esteem but rather God-esteem. If we understand and value who God is, we’ll understand and value who we are as well. Check out one girl’s story of her battle with negative body image:

If you’ve found yourself struggling with body image or conforming to the media’s standards of beauty, here are a few verses to guide you on the path of making wise decisions. Write them down, memorize them, and live in the Truth of them.

  • Ephesians 1
  • Psalm 139:14
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

We'd love to hear from you! Send us your freedom story—that’s what we call it when God sets you free through His Truth found in the Bible. Post your 1-minute video on social media and tag @liesyoungwomenbelieve or upload it here, and it could be selected to be featured on a future episode of True You.
